KINGDOM: SEASON 3

Image
Have you wondered what the life of an MMA fighter's really like? Do you ever consider the extremes they go to in order to put on the performance they do? Have you ever wondered what happens outside of the cage? How they live, or what they sacrifice? Well, one thing is for sure: it's not easy - putting your body through tough training and a rigorous diet, starving yourself of carbs that your body so craves, not forgetting the risk of getting injured during training camp. And, on top of it, cutting weight the day before weigh-ins!

These are only a few examples of what a fighter has to endure physically. But what about mentally? Emotionally? Spiritually? Sexually? Psychologically? All this is best encapsulated in Byron Balasco's hit TV series, KINGDOM.

Kingdom has been a big hit among fans. In Season 1, Alvey Kulina (Frank Grillo), a former professional MMA fighter, opens up a gym with his girlfriend Lisa Prince (Kiele Sanchez). He runs the gym, trains fighters and tries to …

FIGHT FOR CHANGE

Image
[Cape Town, South Africa] Boxing has always been referred to as the "Sweet Science". This alludes to the fact that boxing is "a skillful craft that involves strategy and forethought - much like a chess match", an extract from iSport states. What makes it even sweeter is when all proceeds of a boxing event are donated to a charitable cause. Point in case, Fight For Change, a boxing event which took place on 15 June at the Tsogo Sun's, Southern Sun Hotel in Cape Town.

IRSHAAD SAYED CALLS DEMARTE PENA A CHEATER AFTER PED USE EMERGED

Image
[Cape Town, South Africa] Just a few hours ago, Demarte Pena released a statement on Facebook saying that he was a victim of contaminated supplements. This came after his November 2016 title defense (against Irshaad Sayed) blood tests revealed that he had consumed banned substances.

After learning of the results, Sayed wasted no time in firing shots at Pena, indicating that he didn't believe Pena's statement and that Pena "hired a great lawyer to argue his case". Sayed posted a pic of Pena with an injection needle indicating his use of PED's, along with the below comment.

"@thewolfpena has been busted for PEDS, an agent to boost testosterone production. You don't hear that in his statement, neither does he mention that he hired a great lawyer to argue his case. If you are taking a supplement to boost your testosterone, whether they are legal or not you are still trying to gain an advantage. Let's be clear there aren't any supplements that are app…

DEMARTE PENA: I FELL VICTIM TO CONTAMINATION OF TWO APPROVED SPORTS SUPPLEMENTS

Image
[Cape Town, South Africa] It's always an unfortunate situation when athletes get caught using banned substances. It's bad for the fighter, the sport and the promotion. Most of the time the fighters claim they were not aware that the supplements they were using contained banned substances. Same is the case with EFC World Wide Bantamweight Champion, Demarte "The Wolf" Pena.

Pena made a statement on Facebook stating that he was not aware that the supplements he was taking was contaminated and also provided proof to support this statement. He has since been suspended, attended a hearing and has been reinstated to return to the hex. Here's his social media announcement.

"It is unfortunate but I have been alerted to incorrect rumours circulating about me as the EFC Worldwide Bantamweight Champion; I believe it is necessary to correct these rumours by providing the correct, relevant facts.

I fell victim to contamination of two approved sports supplements, which I use…
